Cafiesa has been a leader in finding new practical and efficient methods to promote community development and inclusive business models. We worked together with the SNV of the Netherlands to develop strategies in which our growth goes hand in hand with the growth of our partners: the farmers.

        Over 40 years of experience has given us the knowledge that just simply giving a premium for the price of the beans is not sustainable, and only very few benefit from this, leaving most of the community without any benefit. It even creates friction with the leaders and the rest of the members, and it is rarely invested in development and education. Thus, additionally of always paying the co-ops and farmers with the highest prices over the market, Cafiesa has devoted funds for schools, community centers, education and training programs, and organic and eco- friendly practices.

Only if we create healthy and sustainable communities for our farmers in the countryside, we make sure they do not have to migrate to the large cities due to poverty. This way we can ensure for ourselves a long lasting partnership between the farmers and us. This reciprocal benefit sharing model is what we call an inclusive business, in  which we believe strongly and promote actively.
